With the way technology is advancing, and the competition that is going on between companies, the competitors are always looking for the best and the brightest individuals who can come up with good ideas as well as polish those ideas and turn them into items that would be in demand. This competition has made the hiring of IT specialists a lot harder. The economy has not been of help either its just made companies more conscious of the cost.   This prompts them to make sure that every new hire will be worth their pay and so much more. These are people who know more than just the job description that they are hiring for they are knowledgeable regarding the technical aspect of the job, and are therefore able to ask harder questions in order to test whether or not an applicant has the basic knowledge needed to fulfil the job post. Each technical recruiter has his or her own way of conducting interviews. However, there are certain qualities that they are all looking for. Here are a few tips that would get you into the good graces of a technical recruiter: Do your own background research: Would you hire someone who knows nothing about the job that he is applying for? In fact, would you hire someone to join your team when they know nothing about the team theyre joining? A technical recruiter would be keen to ask about what you know about the job and would focus on your technical skills. Be considerate of this fact, and speak at a moderate pace. This will not just make it easy for them to take notes, but it will give you time to formulate your own thoughts. You will also not sound unsure whenever you take a few seconds before launching into your answer because the pause will sound normal, especially when you do it at the end of every question. Have your own questions: It is true that you would be on the receiving end when it comes to the interview, but it would help if you develop curiosity of your own.  Having curiosity regarding the job would be a good sign of interest. Perhaps you could ask what are the main challenges that this job faces on a daily basis, or when you would hear regarding the decision. Top 10 Questions Interviewers Love To Ask Im pretty sure there isnt anyone who likes being on the applicant side of a job interview.  I know its on my list of least favorite places to be.  So its always a good idea to go in being as prepared as practical.  The interview questions they  love to ask are typically the ones that are toughest to answer.  At least with an answer that makes you feel like youre winning the interview battle. The questions that you hear repeatedly change with time.  Some of the standard go-to queries will probably always be part of the mix.  But theres also the current favorites which must be somehow magically communicated to every hiring executive and HR department out there.   Here are ten questions from a recent study of HR leaders, and another ten that are favorites at the second- and third-interview level.  Remember, good preparation is a battle half won! The Waggl Survey In Waggl’s newest pulse survey, “The Voice of the Workplace,” conducted with hundreds of business and HR leaders in May-July 2016, eighty-five percent of the participants responded that they believe an insightful interview question is more important than a resume for sourcing talent and cultural fit.   Responses were fairly consistent across geography, organization size, and job title/role. Waggl also asked participants, “What’s your most insightful interview question and why?”, and distilled their crowdsourced responses into a ranked list.   Here are the top ten interview questions from that list: 72.6% voted for “Tell me about the 3 most pivotal leadership experiences in your career.   What did you learn? How do you apply that today?” 65.8% voted for “How do you approach someone who is not cooperative?” 63.8% voted for “Tell me about the opportunity/event/etc. that made you grow the most as a leader.” 63.7% voted for “What is your personal professional brand? How would your current or former co-workers describe you, and what is a piece of constructive feedback you receive consistently?   What have you done to improve on that?” 62.5% voted for “Tell me about a time when you overcame internal resistance and successfully accomplished an important business objective.” 62.1% voted for “Who is your hero and why?” 61.4% voted for “What excites you about this job?” 61.1% voted for “Tell me about a time when you received negative feedback from a customer or stakeholder. How did you address this feedback and what was the final outcome?” 60.2% voted for “Describe a workplace challenge/issue/problem and how you overcame it.” 59.9% voted for “I would ask a real world problem question that I’m currently facing in the area of candidates expertise, and ask them how they would solve it.” The Third Interview You gotten by the preliminary interviews, and youre in the final running for the position.  On the surface, questions at this level typically seem more friendly and conversational.   Some are similar, and not, to the ones youve heard earlier.  But theyre designed to allow you to open up and either demonstrate youre the one they want, or that youre the candidate deserving of the Thank you for applying, however . . letter.  Here are ten of the favorite top-level questions youre likely to hear: Tell me about where you are from originally. What do you like to do in your spare time? What was your first leadership role? How would you choose people to hire for your team? What kinds of behaviors irritate you in your colleagues? Whom do you admire and why? How would you describe yourself as a leader? What kinds of situations bring out the best in you? What kinds of situations bring out the worst in you? Whats the hardest thing you have ever done as a leader? Interview Questions:  Preparation is Rehearsal Not Memorization As you review the above questions, remember its not about memorizing answers.  Your interviewer has done this many times and can spot canned responses a mile away.  So youve got to do the preparation like a top-billed  standup comedian.  You have to know your material, but be able to make your presentation flow naturally and relaxed to your audience.  The only difference being that youre after a handshake and a job offer instead of applause. Introducing... you When asked, what do you do or in job search what are you looking for or in an interview tell me about yourself, it is not only prudent, it is critical to know what you are going to say about yourself. I know I dont like talking about myself, you probably dont either, that is why it is even more important to know exactly how to describe ourselves. This prepared statement is known as an elevator speech, 45 second commercial or positioning statment. Speak it with passion. Use words that create visual images. Let your passion shine through (oh, that might be the problem, youre not sure what your passion is, so youll need to work on that). The commercial contains your occupation, the sets of skills you excel at, your industry knowledge, perhaps an accomplishment that typifies the work youve done and some unique traits or qualities that define you as a professional. It might even include the names of a couple of companies you would like to work for (if you are in search). I like to use the following sentences to get the ball rolling: I am a ____________(job title or profession) With expertise in _________________ (specific work related skills) My background includes_______________ (types of industries worked in) My unique qualities are_____________ (traits that differentiate you) Dont just wing it. Plan, do, act it. Consider these lines in a play. Youll need to memorize them, practice them, re-work it so it truly sounds like you and then get into character. Thats what great actors/actresses do, they take on the persona of who they are supposed to be or who they want to be. Because talking about yourself is a skill, it does require practice. The olympians who competed this summer didnt just train the months before. They have been preparing their entire lives to compete. The professional world requires we compete. Begin practicing so that you can develop the skills you need to be perceived as the professional you are and want to be known for. Its no longer enough to be good at what you do, you need to be able to talk about what you can do well!
